Filmstrip is my first large-scale jewellery project - but it also deliberately explores and transcends the very boundaries of jewellery. It is inspired by 35mm filmstrip, an analogue technology once commonly inserted into cameras that has gradually given way to the digital age.
The result is generous necklaces - thin metal strips with hand-carved perforations confuse the senses and evoke freshly unwound film with memories and moments of our lives captured. The colourful images refer not only to this now almost forgotten phenomenon, but also to the mutability and resilience of our memory.
